Aaron Eugene Thomas, 69 of Urbana, went home to be with our Lord, Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in Springfield Regional Hospital, High St. Campus.
He was born September 6, 1940 in Cedarville, Ohio, the son of Walter and Edith (Harris) Thomas.
He was a 1958 graduate of Triad High School. After his graduation he worked at W.H. Marvin’s where he made jelly, jams and etc. July of 1959 he joined the United States Air Force for 4 years, he was a Travel Clerk. During his service time he was stationed at the following bases, Lakeland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas; Sheppard Air Force Bases in Wichita Falls, Texas; 2 years at Naba Air Force Base in Okinawa and Kincheloe Air Force Base in Michigan. During the time he was stationed in Michigan, be met Gail Elaine Moore. On June 6, 1964 they were married at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan. They had two children from that marriage.
Aaron was a letter carrier for 28 years. He was a driver for 7 years, a dispatcher for 4 years at Champaign Transit System. For the last 2 years or so he has been a people greeter at Wal-Mart. Aaron also worked at
H & R Block and had his own Income Tax business in his home for 20 years. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Gail (Moore) Thomas of 45 years; son, Kevin (Toieka) Thomas of Urbana; daughter, Sherry Thomas of Springfield. The two real joys of his life are his granddaughters, Kendall Elaine & Brandie Renae of Springfield. He is also survived by two very special cousins that are more like sisters, Frances Board of Columbus and Joanne (Rex) Jones of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9 – 11 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009 in VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Wonn officiating. Burial will be in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
