Adolph E. “Bus” Bowdry, 89, of Mechanicsburg, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 19, 2016 in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana.
He was born November 25, 1926 in Piqua, Ohio. Bus served as a Seaman First Class in United States Navy during World War II, Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He later served in the United States Naval Reserve. For his dedicated services, Bus received a Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. He was a devoted Roman Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sir Knight 4th degree, # 822. He was a member of VFW, American Legion Post 0888 and the Lionel Collectors Club of America. Along with his wife Joy, they were part of the starting founders of the African American Genealogy Group of the Miami Valley and a member of the Ohio Genealogy Society. Bus enjoyed the companionship of his faithful and loving pets – cats, Kim, Char, Victoria, Freddy and Ebenezer and phantom poodle, Anakin.
Mr. Bowdry is preceded in death by his parents, David and Jane (Parker) Bowdry, his wife of 64 years, Joy Fern (Depp) Bowdry, great-grandfather, Tobias Pink Bowdry, grandfather, Ernest Elize Clink Bowdry and his siblings, Charles Edward Bowdry, Agnes Ann, Laura Jean Bowdry.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews of several generations as well as his beloved poodle, Anakin.
A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday June 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church 40 Walnut St., Mechanicsburg, Oh.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to African American Genealogy Group of the Miami Valley, P. O. Box 485, Yellow Springs, Ohio 45387.
