Pastor Bert K. Sherman, 80 of Urbana, peacefully and joyfully ran to the arms of his Lord Jesus Christ, Sunday morning, November 22, 2015 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center.He was born January 14, 1935 in Barretts Creek, KY. Bert was a preacher for 50 years. He was a devoted and compassionate Pastor for over 25 years at the Mechanicsburg Baptist Church as well as the Honey Creek Baptist Church in Christiansburg. He loved the Lord Jesus, dearly and always had a burden for the lost souls. With a smile, he always witnessed and quoted the Bible to everyone that he met. Many people remembered Berts sermons on Gods Holy words (The KJV Bible). Bert enjoyed golf and fishing. He often referred himself to a fisherman to a Fisher of Men. He also loved to sing and listen to Hymns and Gospel Music. Bert will be missed greatly, by his family members and friends.Bert is survived by his loving wife, Diana L. (Smith) Sherman; his sons Gary D. (Laura) Sherman, John P. Sherman and Trent (Kerri) Roach, his daughters, Tracy L. (Jeff) Burns and Bonnie (Mark) Lynn; his grandchildren, Nicole (Kevin) Ralyon, Sheena, Shelby, Christian and Carson, great grandson, Jacob D. Ralyon; his sister, Brenda (Gale) Dixon; his brothers, Lowell (Barbara) Sherman and Terry (Julie) Sherman; as well as several nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Ervin and Dixie (Rice) Sherman, his 1st wife, Janet Sherman, his son, Donald Anthony Tony Sherman; his brothers, George W., James Benny, Robert, Edgar and
Richard Sherman; and his sisters, Betty Pack, Glendine Fultz, Janet Shipley, Jane Tull, Vonnie Hampton and Judy Michael Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in the Mechanicsburg Baptist Church with Pastor Aaron Samples officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg. I’m so sorry to hear of Bert’s passing. My condolences to the family. I will pray for the family to help ease the pain.He was a real decent man and will be missed! May God Bless Him And his family!
So sorry for the loss of Bert. I remember going to Sunday school when he was the Pastor at the Baptist church in Mechanicsburg. I also went to school with Tracy. I will keep your family in my prayers and know that your faith will comfort you.
I’m Ann Lemaster’s granddaughter. Aunt Dixie’s sister. I am so sorry for your loss. Bert was one who you would never forget. I have never forgotten being around him growing up. He was always happy and smiling. You all are in my prayers.
