Betty Anne Jean (Salyers) Amis 68 of Mechanicsburg, went to be with the Lord Saturday, February 21, 2009.


She was born May 11, 1940 in Ironton, Ohio. She was the daughter of Lundy Salyers and Ella Salyers Bayes.


She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Edward Amis of Mechanicsburg, her daughter, Kathy (William) Merrill of Plain City, her son Kevin Amis of Mechanicsburg; her grandchildren Tyler and Zach Merrill and Alicia and Nikki Amis; her mother in law Elizabeth Amis of Tampa, Florida; her brothers Dewie Salyers of Urbana and Joe Bayes of Mechanicsburg, brother in law Roy Amis of Zanesfield and special niece Amy Pullins. Also close to Betty were her sisters in law Marjorie Tidwell of Lutz, Florida, Julie Roush of Degraff and Betty Roe of North Kingston, Rhode Island.


She is preceded in death by her parents, step-father Clyde Bayes, a sister Murlie and two brothers Paul and Billy Salyers.
Betty retired as a Captain after 35 years of service with the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville, Ohio. She was a member of the American Correctional Association and the OCCSA.
Betty loved to spend time with her family and her special friends. She was an avid sports fan watching her grandchildren as well as being a Buckeye and Cavalier’s fan.


A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in the funeral home with Chaplain Arthur Baron officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery Mutual.
