Betty Jo Edwards, 85, of Cable, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Urbana. She was born May 13, 1924, in Catlettsburg, Kentucky, the fourth of five children born to Roscoe and Nellie (Ray) Anderson. In the 1930’s, her family moved to Ohio and she attended schools in Scioto County, Plain City, Unionville Center, Irwin and finally Mechanicsburg.


She was united in marriage to Floyd Edwin Edwards on July 26, 1941 near Mechanicsburg and to this union, four children were born, all of whom survive their dear and loving mother. Betty spent most of her life as a housewife but did work for a short time at Grimes Manufacturing. Also, she and her husband owned the Edwards Egg Factory, which supplied fresh eggs to local stores and residents for several years. Betty was a member of the Middletown Church of God.


Survivors include two daughters: Cynthia (Danny) Huffman and Jan (Gary) Jordan both of Cable; two sons: James Edwards of Arcadia, Florida and Richard Edwards of Hilliard; six grandchildren: Melissa (Larry) Bell, Scott (Beth) Huffman, Jennie (Rob) McNutt, Kyle Huffman, Jamie (Mark) Baldwin and JT (Morgan) Edwards: ten great-grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one sister, Neva (Fred) Turner of Mechanicsburg, two half-sisters: Barbara Anderson of Mechanicsburg and Debbie Stewart of Urbana; two half-brothers: Mike (Terri) Anderson of Phoenix, Arizona and Jeff (Diane) Anderson of Springfield.


She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters: Mable Bronne and Ruby Boyer George; one brother, Elmo Anderson and one half-brother, Chester Ray.


A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2009 in SKILLMAN, MCDONALD, & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2009 with Pastor Robert Instine officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, Ohio.
