Bill F. Bogard, 77, of Mechanicsburg, passed away, Wednesday, March 9, 2011 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 15, 1933 in Mt. Sterling, Ohio, the son of James and Ercel (Smith) Bogard.
In 1939, his family moved to Mechanicsburg to farm. In high school, Bill was involved in vocational agriculture and played football. He graduated in 1951 from Mechanicsburg High School. In 1954 he entered the military serving his country in the United States Army. During his term he was awarded The Soldiers Medal. He was a self-employed plumber and had worked for the Mechanicsburg Water Department for 20 years. Bill enjoyed many things; reading, gardening, the outdoors, and especially mushroom hunting. He loved to spend time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Patricia Ann (Conwell) Bogard of Mechanicsburg; his daughters, Peggy L. (Sam) Harper of Cable and April (Brice) Bradley of Mechanicsburg; his grandchildren, William J. Heckman, Jessica A. Bair, Aaron Wynn, Autumn (Chris) Culler and Amber Bradley; great grandchildren, Kayla Heckman, Samantha Bair, Justin Bebout, Olivia Stoodt and Mackenzie Culler; his sister, Janet (Roger) Herron of Cable; his brothers, Jay Dee (Ann) Bogard of Mechanicsburg and James (Teresa) Bogard of Springfield; brother-in-law, Richard C. (Diana) Conwell of Cincinnati.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters and their spouses, Joretta (Paul) Graham and Shirley (James) Wheaton; brother-in-law, Jim Conwell.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2011 in the Mechanicsburg Christian Fellowship Church. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2011 in the church with Pastor Linden Good officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post # 238 Mechanicsburg. Serving as pallbearers will be Jamie Heckman, Aaron Wynn, Sam Goheen, Mike Bogard, Mike Herron and Ben Bogard. Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Meeks, Charles Byers, Holman Hitchcock, Jessica Bair, Autumn Bradley and Amber Bradley. Services are entrusted to SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W. Harding Blvd., Springfield, Ohio 45504.
