Brook W. Poling, 48, of North Lewisburg, went home to be with the Lord with his family present on Sunday, June 20, 2010, after a courageous battle against ALS.
He was born February 12, 1962 in Troy, Ohio and was a 1980 graduate of Graham High School. He was a member of the River of Life, Urbana. In 2006, he retired from Honda as a maintenance technician after 23 years of service. Brook’s passion was farming; he was a lifelong farmer. For 18 years he was the owner and operator of Poling’s Hay Service and Trucking Business. He was a true entrepreneur; he loved to work with his hands. He could fix or build anything. He enjoyed reading and had a great sense of humor.
Brook is survived by his mother, Virginia K. (Eaton) Poling of Troy; his wife, whom he married, July 24, 1981, Joan (Simpson) Poling; Always proud and full of love for his children, Lauren J. (Brian) Tegtmeyer of Xenia, Ohio and Levi A. Poling of Urbana; his sister, Julie (Steve) Deak of Liberty Township, Ohio, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Billy W. Poling.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services to Celebrate Brook’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 in the funeral home with Pastor Dan Leiker officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Urbana. Serving as Pall Bearers; Rob Jackson, Amos Kaffenbarger, Jeremiah Kaffenbarger, Bob Russell, Tommy Watkins & Chase Wheeler; Honorary Pall Bearers; James Cushman Sr., James Cushman Jr., Mark Henry, Marcus Miller, James Poling & Ralph Watkins. Memorial Contributions may be made in Brook’s memory to the ALS Association Central and Southern Ohio Chapter, 1170 Old Henderson Road, Suite 221, Columbus, Ohio 43220.
