Calvin James Ward, 84 of Urbana, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 20, 2011 in Vancrest of Urbana.
He was born October 7, 1926 in Mad River Township, Champaign County, the son of James and Ora (Bishop) Ward.
He was a life long resident of Champaign County. Calvin served his country in the United States Army. He retired from United Board & Carton in 1970 with 26 years of service. He assisted with Helping Hand Mission and the Christian Messenger Mission. Calvin enjoyed gardening & planting trees; he truly had a green thumb.
He is survived by a step daughter, Viola Davis and her 2 daughters, his brother, Roger E. (Odessa) Ward of Urbana, his sisters, Thelma Jean Yoder and Sandra Ward both of Bellefontaine and numerous nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn Ward, his sisters, Dorothy Siegenthaler and Norma Nicholas and his brothers, Paul & Roland Ward.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 in the funeral home with Pastor Cliff Kissinger officiating. Burial will follow in Nettle Creek Cemetery. Serving as pall-bearers; Bob Nicholas, Dick Siegenthaler, Mike Ward, Chris Yoder, Tim Yoder & T.J. Yoder, honorary pall-bearers; Jeff Gorham, Don Siegenthaler and Jim Siegenthaler.
