Carl J. McIntire, 83, of Urbana passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008 in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana.
He was born October 22, 1924 in Urbana, the son of the late Stephen & Chloe (Pond) McIntire.
Carl served his country in the United States Navy. During his term from 1943 -1946 he served on the USS Sheridan and the USS Lamar. He was a life member of the Urbana American Legion Pearce-Kerns Post 120, a life member of the VFW of Urbana, and a member of the Transportation Communications International Union. Carl retired from Conrail as an operator. He loved to golf and attend his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He is survived by his daughters, Paulette McIntire Bay and Peggy J. McIntire; his grandchildren, Todd Bay and Jamie McIntire all of Urbana, his sister, Louise (McIntire) & Everett Huffman of Spring Hills, his brother-in-law, Kenny Hoffman of Rosewood, and sister-in-law, Frances (Turner) & Milton Powell of Shiner, TX; several nieces and nephews and a special friend Glenda Harenberg of Springfield.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virginia (Turner) McIntire, a son-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Bay, a sister, Joan Hoffman and four brothers, Delbert, Marvin, Carroll & Harold McIntire.
Following Carl’s wishes his body will be cremated. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
