Dr. Charles Henry Bohl, 86 of Urbana, passed away, Friday, May 20, 2011 in the Mercy McAuley Center.
He was born February 27, 1925 the youngest child to Charles H. and Nettie (Miller) Bohl.
Dr. Bohl chose to graduate early from Lebanon High School to enlist in the Naval Aviation Corps during WWII. After serving his country, he married Rosemary Oswald on March 10, 1945 in Lebanon, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1951 and established a dental practice in Urbana, Ohio. He continued practicing until 1998. He was a member of the Mad River Dental Society, the Ohio Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
Dr. Bohl was always active in the community. He was a founding member of the Park Board and worked tirelessly to develop the city park. He also served as a member of the Urbana city council. Dr. Bohl was a natural athlete and excelled at playing all sports. He was particularly proud that he was able to shoot his age on the golf course starting when he was 68. He was the club champion a number of times at the Urbana Country Club, where he served on the Board of Directors and as President.
Dr. Bohl is survived by his wife, Rosemary O. Bohl, his sons, Dr. Steven (Betsy) Bohl of Urbana and Charles H. (Barbara) Bohl of Annapolis, Maryland, his daughter, Diane Bohl of Kissimmee, Florida, his granddaughters, Lindsey E. (Josh) Bills of Grandview, Ohio and Lauren C. Bohl (Fiance Ryan White) of New York, New York, his brother, Edward Bohl of Wooster, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Elaine, his sister, Mary and his brothers, Walter, Howard and Richard.
Memorial services to celebrate his life will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Champaign Family YMCA, 191 Community Dr., Urbana, Ohio 43078. Services are entrusted to the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, Ohio.
