Charles D. Greene, 86 of Urbana went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 11, 2009 surrounded by his family in Mercy Memorial Hospital Urbana.
He was born July 13, 1922 in Gallipolis, Ohio, the son of the late Louis R. and Pearl Gate Smith Greene.
Charles proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the F.O.P. Lodge 93 and American Legion of Delaware, Ohio. He retired in 1987 as Lt. with the Urbana Police Department and a Bailiff of the Municipal court.
He enjoyed working in his yard, fishing, sitting on his porch and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Anthony D. (Amy) Greene of Urbana, Yvette M. (Shean) Elkins of Westerville and Andrea S. (Danny Ohler) of Urbana, the mother of his children, Rita J. Greene of Urbana
his grandchildren, James, Robert, Brice, Arragone, Cynthia, Cierra, Payton, Jacob, Shelby & Austin, his great granddaughter, Samara; his sister, Mildred Lee of Gallipolis, his brother, Louis Green; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins of several generations.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Bessie Maxine Greene, his daughter, Cynthia Greene, brothers, Alfred, Franklin, William & James, sisters, Louise, Florence & Bertha.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana.
Funeral service to celebrate Charles’ life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2009 in the funeral home with Rev. Herchel Byrd officiating.
Burial will follow in the Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.vernonfh.com.
