Charles “Charlie” Clinton Salyers, 87 of Mechanicsburg, passed away, Saturday, June 20, 2015 in Marysville.


He was born May 4, 1928 in Portsmouth. Charlie served his country in the United States Navy. He retired from Navistar after 33 years of service and drove cars for Dave Kehl Chevrolet for the last 25 years. Charlie was a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church, the Good Sams Club, and the NRA. He and his wife, Ida, enjoyed spending the winter months living in Florida. Charlie was an avid fisherman, and he loved camping, traveling, and hunting. He was known for being an animal whisperer and enjoyed spending time with his “grand fur-babies ‘, Jilly, Marley, Tobi, and Molly.


He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia (William) Perks of Springfield, Judy Cunningham of Mechanicsburg, Susie (Tank) Nichols of Urbana and Polly (Greg) Hawk of Mechanicsburg; son, Matthew (Charlotte) Salyers of Urbana; grandchildren, Christine Sabin, Billy Perks, Cecil Perks, Jordan Swank (Nicole Cistone), Kayla Amrine (Dustin Wooten), Charli Hawk, Megan (Mike) King and Morgan Nichols (Dustin Harsh); 14 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joyce Judy; as well as numerous nieces nephews and friends.


Charles is preceded in death by his parents, William and Stella (Neuman) Salyers; his wife, Ida May (Judy) Salyers, brother, George Judy, Jr.


A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2015 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home with Rev. Mimi Ault officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery Mechanicsburg.


The family requests that everyone bring a fishing lure to send with Charlie for all of the fishing he has yet to do.
