Charlotte Hupp of Urbana, passed away, Saturday, November 1, 2008 in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana.

She was the daughter of the late Charles & Edith Grace (Kerr) Burke.

Charlotte was a graduate of Urbana High School and Urbana College.

In 1974, she purchased The Young World Dashery and opened under the name Main Street Clothing Company. Later she added Country Gentleman and Sweet Annie.

Charlotte loved the city of Urbana, she was instrumental in starting the Downtown Business Association, which is now Monument Square District. Her goal was to see the downtown thrive and remain a quaint small town that people would want to come and enjoy. Another passion was the Champaign County Historical Society, as to which she volunteered many hours. She was the originator of the Oktoberfest.

Charlotte was a very talented artist with a flare for style. She loved to decorate, paint, design flower arrangements, working in her garden and collecting antiques. She enjoyed entertaining and preparing food for friends and family. Another love of hers was traveling with her family.

She was involved in many community activities and groups. Charlotte was a member of the Urbana United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Leslie H. Broadstone, her granddaughters, Rachel Marie and Abigail Rose Broadstone all of Urbana; her brother-in-law, Dick (Pat) Hupp of Gratiot, OH, several nieces & nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gale I. Hupp in October of 1999 and her son-in-law, Steve Broadstone in June 2008.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2008 in the Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Charlotte’s memory to the Champaign County Historical Society or to the Monument Square District.
