Clair Zimmerman, 82 of Mechanicsburg passed away Friday, February 10, 2012 in his residence.
He was born January 1, 1930 in Urbana, Ohio the son of Brenton C. and Eleanor N. (Newman) Zimmerman.
Clair was a 1948 graduate from Mechanicsburg High School and attended The Ohio State University for 3 years. He served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. Clair married Rosalyn “Rosie” Wibright in 1954 and they had 2 children, Lorraine and Brent. He farmed with his father for 20 years, with family for 14 years and with Brent for over 20 years while maintaining reasonably amiable relationships through these times. Clair traveled some but most of all enjoyed the farm. He enjoyed music of the 40’s and 50’s, especially the “Sweet Bands” of the Big Band era. He thought Central Ohio and the Mechanicsburg area was a great place to live. Clair was a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He remembered the Cherry Coke’s at Smith’s Drug Store (in the 1940’s) to the meals at Castle’s and A Better Place.
He is survived by his son, Brent (Angie) Zimmerman of Mechanicsburg and his daughter, Rev. Lorraine “Lori” Zimmerman of London.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Rosalyn “Rosie” Zimmerman.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home with Pastor Harley Roston officiating. Following Clair’s wishes his body will be cremated. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg at the convenience of the family.
