Clara Fay (Wells) Preston, 74, of Urbana, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010 in Mercy Memorial Hospital Urbana with her family by her side. She was born September 22, 1935 in Inez, Kentucky the daughter of Sherman and Lillian (Collins) Wells.
Clara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Urbana. She was recently honored for being a 25 year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Urbana, additionally she was an associate member in Louisa, KY. Clara has held various officer positions with the DAR as well as the Christian Waldschmidt Homestead Museum in Camp Dennison, OH. She has for many years been loved and known for being the Conestoga Wagon and Surrey Lady. Her dedication and work to research and restore ancestral and historical artifacts is beyond explanation. Clara married the love of her life, James Preston on July 7, 1952. She maintained the organizational necessity of the family as she supported her husband as he served his nation as an Army Officer for almost 30 years. The love and devotion Clara has always shown for her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren can never be surpassed. The love of life and all living things was her lesson in life to all that knew her.
She is survived by her husband; sons, James (Patricia) Preston, Jr. of North Carolina and Edward (Karen) Preston of Urbana; daughter, Marcia (Donald) Bennett of Tennessee; grandchildren, Celeste Artis, James Joshua Preston, Michael and Bryon Parsons, Casey Livingston, Hannah, Joseph, Rebecca and Sarah Preston; step-grandchildren, Samantha Matthews, Christopher Bennett and Steven Jones; great grandchildren, Norrin, Mariama, Sebastian, Cyan, Sadie, James Joshua Jr., Jessica, Ross, Austin, Dalton, Riley and Owen; sisters, Wavelean (Larry) Cope of California, Cora Wells of California, LaVerne Stevens of Cable and WilliDean Russell of Urbana; numerous nieces and nephews.
Clara is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Patty Livingston, brothers, Gus, Ed, Doug, Walter, Tommy and John Wells; sisters, Magdalena and Imojean.
Funeral service will be held at 3 P.M. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg with Rev. Dr. Kevin Horrigan and Pastor Kenny Cordell officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-3 P.M.
