Clarence Edward (Deak) Jones, 80, of Mechanicsburg went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 30, 2016, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 29, 1936 in Portsmouth, Ohio, son of Joseph M. and Emma Elizabeth (Hornikel) Jones.
Deak was a 1954 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School, where he participated in FFA, Football, and Basketball. He retired from Navistar after 41 years service. He attended Mechanicsburg Freewill Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon and loved his church family. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and tending to his garden, fruit trees, and yard. He and his wife Miriam, enjoyed traveling but they were always glad to return home. They volunteered together to help the “Bread man” distribute food items to local senior citizens. They pitched horseshoes together for several years in a league in West Liberty. They attended church together for over 50 years. Deak spent the past ten years as caretaker for Miriam, tending to her every need. He was a positive person, with a quick wit and warm smile.
Deak was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend. He took great pride in working with and watching his children and grandchildren in sporting activities. He and Miriam rarely missed a game.
He is survived by his daughter, Kim (Ivan) Poland, his sons, Jeff Jones, and Michael (Julie) Jones, his grandchildren, Kyle Jones, Evan Jones, Nick Jones, Emma Jones, and step-grandchildren Jordan Kielich and Jake Kielich. Sisters, Louella Foss, Ruth Foss, Janet (Hershell) Burkes, Carole (Robert) May, and brother, Bill (Doris) Jones, Sisters-in law, Shirley Van Shoyck, and Marilyn Shonkwiler, and Brother-in-law, Wes Skinner, as well as extended family, Mitzi Jones and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
Deak was preceded in death by his parents, Miriam (Shonkwiler) Jones, his loving wife of 56 years, sister, Helen Wheeler, and a baby sister, as well as numerous sister and brothers in-law.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4- 7, on Tuesday,
October 4, 2016 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 in the funeral home with Pastor Jesse Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Mutual, Ohio. Deak’s family would like to thank Mitzi Jones, the aides from Comfort Keepers, and Hospice Nurses, Ashley and Megan for all they did for him. Donations in Deak’s memory may be made to the Freewill Baptist Church, 45 Oakland Street, Mechanicsburg. Ohio 43044 or the local Alzheimer’s Association, in memory of his wife, Miriam.
