Visitation Monday, July 2, 2018 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Vernon Funeral Home

Reverend Clifford L. "Cliff" Kissinger, 91, of Springfield, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 28, 2018 in Villa of Springfield.

He was born March 27, 1927 in Culver, Indiana, the son of James and Cynthia (Anderson) Kissinger. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Cliff loved sharing the word of the Lord as a pastor to many churches in Indiana, Iowa, West Virginia and Ohio throughout his 60 years of service. Cliff was passionate about youth ministry and building the youth up through the church, and was a mentor to not only the members of his congregations, but also men and women who followed in his footsteps and became pastors themselves. Locally, he served for 10 years at Bethel Baptist Church in Springfield and from 1969-1979 at the First Baptist Church of Urbana where he was named Pastor Emeritus after his retirement. In addition, Cliff also served as interim pastor at Myrtle Tree Baptist Church in St. Paris and Kingscreek Baptist Church in Urbana. He later served as Chaplain at Vancrest Nursing Home in Urbana, as well as running a ministry blog. Most of all, his greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a true "people person" with an incredible sense of humor and a gentle, kind and caring soul. He will be sadly missed by everyone who had the opportunity to know and love him.

Cliff is survived by his wife of 69 years, whom he adored, Virginia (Stewart) Kissinger; his daughter, Cynthia A. "Cindi" (David) Koch of Grove City; his grandchildren, Conner L. Budwine of Gahanna and Ethan Bradley Koch of Grove City; his great grandson, Caiden Budwine; his sisters, Marjorie Underwood of Indiana and Jane (Dean) Cernek of Wisconsin; and his brothers, Lloyd (Nancy) Kissinger and Karl (Julie) Kissinger, both of Indiana.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Irene Weimer, James Kissinger, Wilbur Kissinger and Danny Kissinger.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Monday, July 2, 2018 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 in the funeral home with Rev. Brian Wonn officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Urbana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any Christian School in Cliff's name.

Praying for comfort for Virginia as we all celebrate Rev Kissinger going to be with the Lord. What a glorious moment when he meets Jesus. Well done, Rev Kissinger, very well done. What a dedicated servant, a very close friend of my step-father, baptized me at 15 years old, prayed with my mom hours before she passed. What a blessing to have had him in our lives, he certainly brought us closer to God and brought us much peace in our times of sorrow and loss. May the Lord be with his family and loved ones. Thank you, Lord, for using him in such gentle ways to draw us closer to You.
