David William Jackson, 92, of Urbana, Ohio passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017 in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana.
He was born April 13, 1924 in Mingo, Ohio. He proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Jerusalem 2nd Baptist Church. David was a Mason with Golden Square Lodge #23 in Urbana, Akbar Temple #41 in Springfield, Urbana Moose Lodge and the Urbana VFW. He was owner of the #139 Club and the Green Lantern Pub. He retired from WPAFB after 30 years as an electrician and in communications; after he retired he worked at High Point as an educator and drove a bus for Lawnview for 25 years. David loved jazz music and was an avid drummer. He drummed with the Spry Lighters. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, playing the lottery and going to the casino. Most of all David enjoyed life.
David is survived by his daughter, Stephanie D. Trulove; grandchildren, George “Lucky”, Ouida, Tammy and Rex; numerous nieces and nephews of several generations that he adored and thy loved him as well, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rachel (Manuel) Jackson; his wife, Mildred Marie Jackson; his sister, Julia Bell; his brothers, Chester Jackson, Bob Jackson, Marion Gene Jackson, Charles Jackson, Ed Jackson and Martin Jackson, and his son-in-law, George Truelove Jr.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2017 in the Jerusalem 2nd Baptist Church, 1036 High St., Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 in the church with Reverend Michael Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
