David Wren Roberts 78 a lifelong resident of Mechanicsburg, passed away Friday, December 5, 2008 in Naples, FL. He was born May 10, 1930 in Mechanicsburg, the son of the late Homer & Lucille (Hedges) Roberts.

David was a 1948 graduate of Moorefield High School and he attended Wittenberg University and the Ohio State University. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. David was a member of the Moorefield United Methodist Church and the D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans) He participated in 4-H and later was so proud of his children and grandchildren with their participation in the Clark and Champaign county fairs, as well as their many sporting events.

Farming the land was his passion and life’s work; after retirement he loved spending time with his family and friends in Naples.

David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty P. (Slough) Roberts, his daughters, Lori (Joe) Mosier of Springfield, Leslie (Kenny) Hidy of Springfield & Linda (Russ) Wilhelm of Mechanicsburg, his son, David Roberts of Mechanicsburg, grandsons, Coby (Jackie) Wilhelm and Kyle Wilhelm both of Mechanicsburg, a great granddaughter, Lani; his brother, Jack (Suzanne) Roberts of Mechanicsburg; his sister-in-laws, Donna (Warren) Downing of Springfield & Virginia (Keith) Howell of Mechanicsburg, as well as cousins, nephews, nieces & many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Phil Roberts, a nephew, Jay Roberts and a special grandson, Joey Mosier.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday December11, 2008 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home Mechanicsburg.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008 in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Springfield, Ohio.
