David E. Rodgers, 70 of Mechanicsburg, passed away, Friday, September 10, 2010 in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born September 28, 1939 in Waterloo, Ohio, the son of Roscoe and Edna C. (Rose) Rodgers.
David was a 1958 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School. He retired from Navi Star – International in Springfield. He was a member of the Local UAW 402. David enjoyed golfing, fishing, going to auctions, shopping for antiques, watching baseball, working on his landscaping and watching & attending horse racing.
David was proud of having 2 holes in one at golf and spending time with his great granddaughters. He loved life and always had a positive outlook.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 48 years Betty Jo (Estep) Rodgers, his daughter, Maela (Randall) Butz of Mechanicsburg, his son, Jeffery Brian (Jo Robin) Rodgers of West Chester, his grandchildren, Cari (Shawn) Leet, Leah Castle, Lydia (Mitch) Beatty and Tony Howard, great grandchildren, Taylor N. Smith, Elizabeth Evilsizor, Rachel Leet, Jaelyn Howard and Justin Jones; his sisters, Joan (Larry) Krukewitt of Springfield, Jean (Tommy) Loveless, Linda (Jim) Combs, Betty (Earl) Boggs and Lillian (Bob) Wilson all of Mechanicsburg; his brothers, Roscoe Jr. Rodgers of Pampano Beach, FL, Raymond (Gloria) Rodgers of Sun City, NV and Roy (Myrene) Rodgers of Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Dema Rodgers of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Lloyd and Beverly S. Rodgers & Andrew “Jack” Rodgers; and his sister, Pauline Beavers.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Community Mercy Hospice, especially Lynn.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2010 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 13, 2010 in the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Hix officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
