Delores Lucille (Artis) Buckney, 69 of Urbana passed away at 7:55 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2012 in Springfield Regional Medical Center.

Born on September 2, 1942, she was the daughter of George and Florence (Jackson) Artis, who preceded her in death.

Delores had previously worked in Urbana at Bulldog and was also a longtime data entry specialist at Mercy Memorial Hospital before moving to California. While there, she worked as a catering assistant for the San Diego Chargers football franchise.

She returned to Ohio to enjoy her growing family, which includes a daughter and four sons; Jane Ann Calhoun of Urbana; Kent (Stacey) Artis, Rob (Carey Michelle) Jones, Carey Neil Buckney, all of Urbana and Todd Buckney of Warren County; 13 grandchildren, Christopher and Allyson Artis; Derek and Robbie; LaVante, LaVar and Joshua Calhoun; Spencer, Cody and Carey Beth Buckney; Danielle, Michael and Teya Buckney; and one great-grandson, Ethan.

Also surviving to mourn her passing are a sister, Lora Johnson, and brother, Steve (Gayle) Artis, all of Urbana; special aunts, Libby Norvel of Dayton, Marion Roberts and Juanita Artis, both of Springfield; a host of other relatives, including nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, Donna Rogan of Urbana, and Stan Cross of California.

Delores was an animal lover and sports enthusiast who always followed the Chargers. She previously attended River of Life Christian Center and most recently was a member of Jerusalem 2nd Baptist Church in Urbana.

There will be no viewing or funeral services. Instead the family is planning a celebration of Delores’ life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 in the Urbana City Park.
