Donald E. Shaffer, 80 of Springfield, passed away Sunday October 7, 2018 in the Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.
He was born March 11, 1938 in St. Paris Ohio to Earl and Ethel (Sharp) Shaffer. He was a 1956 graduate from St. Paris High School and received his associate degree from Miami Jacobs College in accounting. Donald served his country in The United States Army. He then pursued a career in accounting and after 35 years retired from Southwestern Portland Cement in Fairborn. Donald was a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan. His hobbies were bowling and golfing and he loved spending time with his family and his beloved dog Sparky. In his free time, Don sang in Barbershop choruses of Xenia and Fairborn, and with Vintage Voices in Springfield. He also volunteered his time at Mercy Hospital, Springfield in the gift shop for 11 years.

Donald is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ella Jurrene (Baker) Shaffer; his daughter, Amy Shaffer (Bill Pope); son, Andy (Tammie) Shaffer; and grandsons, Joel and Grant Shaffer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard "Dick" Shaffer; and grandson, Alexander Shaffer.

Funeral service will be held at Bowlusville United Methodist Church on Wednesday October 10, 2018 at 12 p.m. with pastor Cheeseman officiating. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Terre Haute Cemetery, Terre Haute.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Bowlusville United Methodist Church, 445 W. County Line Rd. Springfield, OH 45502.

Services are entrusted to VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana.
