November 25, 2018
Donald Jordan Violet, 79 of Urbana, Ohio passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 in Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
He was born May 4, 1939 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio and was the 2nd of 5 children to Charles H. & Opal (Jordan) Violet. Growing up on a farm doing daily chores taught him how to work hard and be resilient and carried those along his lifetime. After leaving home and moving all the way to Urbana, he began working. He loved to work on cars and his passion for racecars led him to become an ARCA driver. He started a family and had a son Richard and a daughter Karen. After marrying Helen (Rice), his family grew with a son, Duane and a daughter Julie.
He believed knowledge is at our fingertips and we only need to seek out to learn. Because of this belief, he continued his education and learning throughout life. He became an ASE Master Technician, received certifications from manufacturers and kept current and up to date as new technologies became available. He worked on cars, trucks, heavy equipment, semi-tractors and racecars. If he came across something he didn't know, he simply learned. He worked at different companies over the years but retired from TRC, East Liberty, OH. He worked for 53 years in the automotive industry and loved it!
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and volunteer firefighter. He loved to spend time with his family, travel to car shows, tradeshows, swap meets, go to races and the occasional sale. He was a collector of things and enjoyed tinkering around with smaller projects later in life. He was always there to help out, repair a job or visit a friend. He was a true gentleman, a devoted son, a loving brother, husband & father and a loyal friend. He will be truly missed.
Donald is survived by his children, Duane (Tracey) Wilson, Karen Violet (Calvin Patterson) and Julie (Kurt) Criner; grandchildren, Jordan and Jenna Wilson, Luke Patterson and Sarah Criner; sister, Dorothy Moore; brother, John (Delores) Violet as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Violet; son, Richard Violet; grandson, Kyle Criner; brother, Michael Violet and sister, Pam Violet Nixon.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 pm on Thursday, November 29, 2018 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 30, 2018 in the funeral home with Rev. Jim Lillibridge officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery.
