Donald P. Thompson, 87 of West Liberty, passed away, Wednesday, April 01, 2015 in Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, Ohio.
He was born January 21, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio son of Paul and Madge (Walters) Thompson.
He was a graduate of West Liberty High School. He served his country in the United States Navy and had married his wife Kathleen Piatt on September 25, 1948.
Donald and his wife, Kathleen owned three businesses together (Sunbeam Bread, Thompson Shell Service and Thompson Service Garage) a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Springhills. He was a former West Liberty Lions Club member, West Liberty Council and Zoning Board member who had helped plan and carryout the 1967 West Liberty Sesquicentennial. His hobbies included creating and building stained glass lamps and windows; model airplane designer being both builder and flyer; and avid gardener designing and building the limestone walls that accentuated his home.
He is survived by his daughters, Cindy (Steve) Neer, Robin (Steve) Godwin both of West Liberty, Jennifer Miller of Urbana and Deanna (Mark) Kauffman of West Liberty; his grandchildren, Lyndsey Godwin, Kelsey and Emily Kauffman and Ross and Ryan Miller. He also had several cousins and family members in the Logan-Champaign County area.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kathleen Thompson, brother, James Thompson, sister, Roberta Maynard and son-in-law, Terry Miller.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 P.M. Friday, April 3, 2015 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 4, 2015 in the funeral home with Pastor Forrest Amidon officiating.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
