Doris “Dorie” Mae Collins, 81, of Urbana, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2013 in Mercy Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 12, 1932 in Brackenridge, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Harry and Rachel (Hoak) Meinen.
Dorie retired from Grimes Manufacturing as a typist in the shipping office. She was actively involved in serving others through the Urbana United Methodist Church. She was a proud member of the Women’s Society and the Love Circle, along with singing in the choir for many years. Dorie was a master pie baker and loved to travel and play cards with her friends. She enjoyed the Splash Class at the YMCA and was an avid OSU sports fan. Dorie and Lee were OSU football season ticket holders for the past 34 years. Above all, Dorie loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Harold Collins; daughters, Jodi Lynn (Howell) Hepner, Clifton, VA, Nanci Lee (Darrell) Sarven, Springfield, OH; son, Bradley Joseph Gall, Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Rachel Hepner and Allison & Kyle Sarven; sisters, Jeanne Tondiglia, Ravenna, OH, Ludy (James) Hitchcock, Lithopolis, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Harry Elsworth Meinen, Jr., William Harrison Meinen, Mary Elizabeth Meinen.
The family would like to thank the nurses at Mercy Memorial Hospital and Hospice for the tender loving care they provided in Dorie’s final days.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2013 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Urbana United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Lilliabridge officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
