Dorothy Runyan, 94 of Mechanicsburg, passed away in her home, Monday, January 21, 2013.
She was born September 26, 1918 in Urbana, Ohio. She graduated in 1936 from Salem High School and Moore’s Business College in 1937.
Dorothy faithfully attended and was a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Goshen Garden Club, Champaign County Quilters Association and the Champaign County YMCA. Her fondest memory was her first airplane flight to Florida in June of 2007 to visit a special cousin, Catherine Peck and two friends, Doris Gaver and Bill Clark.
She enjoyed gardening, mowing over 3 acres each summer, quilting, traveling, water aerobics and eating dinner with her fellow swimmers afterwards. Most of all she loved attending family events; including, fair events or sporting events.
Survivors include, her daughter, Judy (Wayne) Russell of Urbana, her son, William (Eleanor) Runyan of Millersburg, her grandchildren, Brooke (Anthony) Spina of Hilliard, Shad (Tara) Russell of South Vienna, Amy (Josh) Patterson of Millersburg and Erin (Geoff) Randolph of Gahanna; her great grandchildren, Ariana and Dominic Spina, Tallon Russell, Christian and Tiffany Richner, Hannah, and Daniel Keller, Ellie, Kinsey and Mari Patterson and Harper and Baby-on-the-Way Randolph; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Elsie (Walker) Powell, her husband, Robert Runyan and her brothers, Melvin F. and Raymond E. Powell
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 in the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013 in the church with Dr. Rev. Harley Roston officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
