Enid Angela (Angie) Rutan, 90, of Centerville (formerly of Mechanicsburg) OH passed away peacefully October, 4, 2018, surrounded by family and a close family friend.
Angie was born in Moorhead, KY on January 25, 1928, the youngest of three daughters to Virgil D. and Wilma Gladys (Flannery) Black. She graduated from Catawba High School, Catawba, OH, in 1946 and then traveled by train to Omaha, NE to attend airlines communications technical school. After graduating she returned to Mechanicsburg where she met and married Merrill E. Rutan on June 18, 1949. They were married 63 years.
Angie was a member of Eastern Star-Caroline Chapter #39, King's Daughters, and the Mother's Memorial Circle. She retired from Mercy Memorial Hospital where she worked for many years in the admitting office. Angie enjoyed traveling with family and friends throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, and over the years to a couple foreign countries.
She was an avid bowler involved with a women's league and participated in state tournaments for over 30 years, and bowled on mixed leagues with her husband, Merrill. She and Merrill entertained friends at their home playing cards many times over the years and later in life loved playing Progressive Euchre with groups from South Charleston and Catawba.
Angie was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill, her parents, older sister Valeria Standley, and an infant sister Gwendolyn. She is survived by three children - Sharma Fox, Kevin Rutan and Kendra (Herb) Bryant. Four grandchildren - Raechelle (Michael) Holmes, Sarah Rutan, Kyle (Lauren) Rutan, Alyssa Rutan and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by another sister, Brythald Todd and half-sister Pamela Kay (Ray) Matura as well as many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, October 12, 2018 in the SKILLMAN, McDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, 257 W. Main St., Mechanicsburg with Eastern Star Services beginning at 7 PM. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, October 13, 2018 in the funeral home with Rev. Mimi Ault officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
