Gene Coleman, 75, of North Lewisburg, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018 in Memorial Hospital, Marysville.
He was born October 12, 1942 in Urbana, the son of the late Edwin Eugene and Alice Amelin (Armstrong) Coleman. He attended Triad High School. Growing up Gene would work from dawn to dusk working for farmers, Grauman Garage, Scott's and Miller Excavating. His love for excavating led to him helping his brother Don and later starting Coleman Excavating. He retired from Pioneer Rural Electric where he served as a Lineman. Gene was a North Lewisburg Council member for 21 years, served over 25 years with the Northeast Champaign County Fire District where for the last few years was the Assistant Fire Chief, as well as he served as Caretaker for Maple Grove Cemetery and Woodstock Cemetery for several years.
Gene is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth E. (Grauman) Coleman, his daughters, Stacey Ann (Kevin) Neer and Cindy Ann ( Jerry ) Harlan; his 4 grandchildren, Betsy Neer, Maggie Neer, Briley Harlan and Allison Harlan; his sister-in-laws, Phyllis Coleman and Linda (Terry) Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don Coleman and Richard "Rick" Coleman; father and mother in law, Lionel and Kathryn Grauman; brother in laws, Gary and Jack Grauman; and sister in law, Jane Grauman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2018 in the FRESHWATER, MCDONDALD & VERNON Funeral Home, North Lewisburg, with Pastor Karen Montgomery officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018 in the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the Northeast Champaign County Fire District at 60 Maple St, North Lewisburg, OH 43060 for the many years that he served and they helped him.
