The Rev. Dr. Earl A. McCall, 83, of Urbana passed away Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 31, 1928, at home, he was the son of Edgar & Flossie (Atkins) McCall. McCall earned his Bachelor of Elementary Education (1976) from the University of Findlay, Master of Theology (1979) from United Theological Seminary and a Doctorate of Ministries from Bethany Theological Seminary. Dr. McCall was ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church in 1980. Entered the ministry in 1960 and was ordained in the Church of God of Anderson, IN in 1964 while serving the Northside Church of God congregation in Urbana, OH. Dr. McCall served United Methodist congregations in Dunkirk & Van Buren, OH; Muncie, Elkhart & Kokomo, IN and Marysville, OH including the Central Ohio Emmaus Community. Dr. McCall then served as missionary to the Ebenezer Church in Cayman Brac.
After retirement from ministry, Dr. McCall, a Licensed Ohio School teacher, enjoyed serving Champaign County Schools as a substitute teacher.
Dr. McCall is a World War II and a Korean Conflict Veteran. He served the U.S. Navy 1945 – 1947 crossing the South Pacific 7 times. He reenlisted in 1948 in the U.S. Army serving under General MacArthur in the Paratroops and Military Government. He earned an Army Occupation Medal – Japan, a Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and an honorable discharge from Tokyo ending service in 1952.
Dr. McCall is survived by his wife, Sharon, of nearly 40 years, 5 sons, Ben (Julie) of Findlay, Stephen (Jenniffer) of Urbana, Kenneth (Zinash) of Las Vegas, Joshua (Amy) serving the U.S. in Germany, and Christopher; 4 daughters, Samantha, Anna Tabitha, Jasmine and Katie Marie still at home, many loved family members, church members and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2011 in the Westville United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in the church with Rev. Dr. Pete Bellini and Fr. Dr. Tim West officiating. Burial will follow in the Dayton National Cemetery.
