Visitation

Saturday, April 4, 2015 from 12:00 PM-1:00 PM at Asbury United Methodist Church

Edna Lucille (Bishop) Bowermeister, 96, passed away on Friday, March, 27, at 10:30 P.M. She was born on April 2, 1918 to Lawrence and Mable (Leonard) Bishop in Clark County.

Edna graduated from Olive Branch High School, and from the Springfield School of Business. After completing her course work Edna worked as a bookkeeper for the Nolte Brass Foundry Company. It was there that she met and married her husband, Lowell. They were married for sixty years.

Fifty three of those years were spent restoring and maintaining a small farm close to North Hampton. Edna and Lowell raised their own beef cattle and cultivated large vegetable gardens to supply food for their family throughout the year. In the summer it was not unusual to walk into the kitchen and find freshly canned garden vegetables and beautiful jars of fresh peaches and pears sitting on the table.

Edna was a sixty-five year member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in North Hampton. During those years she served many different offices in the Women’s Society of Christian Service, now known as the United Methodist Women. She also taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served as chairman for the planning of many large church dinners. Above all Edna cherished her association with the Women’s quilting group. Over the years these ladies designed and made many beautiful quilts.

In her spare time Edna enjoyed researching the genealogy of the Bishop family. She was always very curious as to how her family emigrated from Ireland during the Great Famine in the 1860’s. She enjoyed visiting with cousins and other relatives where, many times, family history was the discussion of the day.

Edna is survived by a brother, Leonard (Emilie) Bishop; sons, Dean (Joy) of St. Paris and David of Columbus. She leaves four grandchildren: Susan of Springfield; Tim (Lisa) of Aliquippa, PA; Jim of St. Paris; and Steve (Shonica) of Terre Haute. Edna is also survived by seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lowell; daughter, Carol Jean; and a sister, Mary Yoder.

A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Asbury United Methodist Church in North Hampton with Pastors Darcy Dill and Steve Hayes officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Terre Haute Cemetery.

Edna requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church Trustees, PO Box 249, 104 E. Clark St., North Hampton, OH 45349.

Services are entrusted to VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.vernonfh.com
