Edwin B. Gannon 85 of Urbana, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008 in the Alterra Sterling House.
He was born February 6, 1923 in Mechanicsburg the son of Pierce B. & Christine M. (Moody) Gannon.
Edwin was a 1941 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII earning awards and honors overseas. He returned home on a furlough and married his late wife, Jane (Bennett) Gannon on August 11, 1945. Edwin retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church, the American Legion Donald Cannon Post 238 for over 50 years and a Lifetime member of the Okeechobee VFW Post 10539. This past September, Mr. Gannon took part in the Honor Flight Program to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
He is survived by his children, Jane Perry of Jupiter, FL, Eleanor (William) Runyan of Millersburg, Mary Margaret (Bruce) Belvin of Jupiter, FL and Jim (Maureen) Gannon of Findlay; grandchildren, William Perry, Amy Runyan Patterson, Erin Runyan Randolph, Christine Belvin Farrell and Shane Belvin and Addie Gannon Natalie, Lauren Gannon Evans, and Meghan and Grant Gannon; great grandchildren, Ellie and Kinsey Patterson, Sal and Sophia Farrell and Murphy Belvin; and sisters, Florence Maxwell, Ruth Ann Lemons & Janet Lou McDonald all of Springfield.
Edwin is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother Paul Gannon.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2008 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2008 in the Mechanicsburg United Methodist with Rev. Dr. Harley Roston officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery Mechanicsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church, 42 N Main St. Mechanicsburg, Ohio 43044 or to the Mechanicsburg Schools Alumni Association, in memory of Jane and Edwin Gannon, P.O.
