Eleanor Jean Baum, 91, formerly of Urbana, OH passed away peacefully on Friday, October 1, 2021 at home surrounded by her family. She was born at home on April 20, 1930 in Mt. Cory, OH the daughter of Ralph and Joyce (Amstutz) Steiner. She was the valedictorian of Mt. Cory High School class of 1948. She completed her bachelor's degree in nursing from Western Reserve University in 1953. She was married to Lester Baum in 1955 and remained married for sixty-two years until his passing. She enjoyed a nursing career until becoming a full-time devoted mother and homemaker. She faithfully and lovingly raised her six children. Eventually, she went back to nursing part-time where she gave much care and kindness to patients at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Urbana, OH for 25 years and continued her service as a volunteer. She loved the simple things in life like reading, singing, growing flowers, baking, and embroidering pillow cases for each new baby in the extended family. Seeing to the needs and spending time with her family and grandchildren brought her much joy and happiness. She lived her life selflessly with a genuine love for people and lived by the motto, "Think of other people." Most importantly, Ele loved the Lord Jesus Christ and desired others to know His love and saving grace. She was a member of Donnels Creek Church of the Brethren for 53 years. Her quiet and gentle spirit will be missed by all who loved her, but we have solace in knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior in heaven.
We would like to thank Ohio Valley Hospice for their excellent care.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Dan) Lukac, Lillian (Todd) Zimmerman, Lenore (David) Morton, Loren (Caroline) Baum, Lisa (Tom) Leedy, and Laura (Clark) Taylor; grandchildren Natalie Lukac, Daniel (Stephanie) Lukac, Jonathan Lukac, Moises Zimmerman, Javier Zimmerman, Rosy Zimmerman, Lena Morton, Max Morton, Loren C. (Hannah) Baum, Joshua (Sarah) Baum, Hannah Baum, Josiah Baum, Sarah Baum, Seth Baum, Clara Leedy, William Taylor, Wesley Taylor, and Warren Taylor; great-grand children Trevin Lukac and Charlotte Baum, as well as two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10-12 noon on Saturday, October 9, 2021 in the Donnels Creek Church of the Brethren, 6562 Detrick-Jordan Pike, Springfield, Ohio. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the church with Pastor Tad Hobart officiating.

My condolances to the family and friends. I have only met her once when she and Patty and their mother came up to Michigan to visit. Since then I have talked to Patty more often, but then we lost contact after i retired and moved south. I now live in Cartersville, Ga.

I am so very sorry to hear about Eleanor's passing. I worked with her at the hospital and then she came to volunteer for me after she retired. Such a lovely, caring woman!! She had a cute giggle, too. Every time I would call the house to talk to her, your dad had to tell me the latest joke. They made a great pair. Ele will be missed for her love for others.
