Elmer Ray Baldwin, 51, of Mechanicsburg, arrived at his Heavenly Home Monday, November 18, 2013 in his home.

He was born October 5, 1962 in Urbana, OH the son of Joseph and Julia (McNeely) Baldwin.

Elmer was a 1981 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School. He was a member of the Rosedale Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a song leader. Elmer looked forward to the Ohio Free Will Baptist Men’s Retreat every January. He enjoyed bluegrass music and was the lead singer for the Baldwin family Gospel Bluegrass Group. Elmer was a big fan of the Mechanicsburg football team and the Tribe with Pride Marching Band. He liked woodworking, song writing, cooking, and baking cakes for his family, as Elmer thought that everyone should have a homemade cake for their birthday. He loved getting together with his family, camping with his brothers and nephews, and was a charter member of the Baldwin Boys Breakfast Club that met at 6 a.m. every Saturday morning at Castle’s Restaurant. Elmer was very outgoing and always made people laugh. His true love in life was spending time with his girls.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Tamara (Bliss) Baldwin; daughters, Emily Caroline and Molly Anne both of Mechanicsburg; brothers, James (Linda) Baldwin and John (Cindy) Baldwin both of Mechanicsburg and Oscar (Donna) Baldwin of Urbana; sister, Patricia “Sister” (Earl) Smith of Urbana; sister-in-law, Carrie Baldwin of Mechanicsburg; 13 nieces and nephews; as well as 13 great nieces and nephews.

Elmer is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2013 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Rosedale Free Will Baptist Church, 9700 Rosedale-Milford Center Rd, Rosedale, OH with Rev. Jim McComas officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.

In lieu of flowers, benevolent contributions can be made on behalf of the family to the Rosedale Free Will Baptist Church, c/o 17990 State Route 161, Plain City, Ohio 43064.

I am so sorry to hear about Elmer’s passing. What a great guy! I worked with him from 2001-2004 in CTIO. He introduced me to bluegrass and bought me my very first guitar. He would be disappointed to hear that I still can’t play it very well. I will always remember Elmer’s outgoing personality and his ability to make people laugh.

Elmer was one of the nicest men I have ever met and although I havent seen him in over a year, since Scott and I divorced, I will always remember his nice smile and the fact that he was always kind to me. I hope you find comfort in knowing that the lord called him up for a reason and he is looking down on you and the girls and will watch over you forever. Please email me if you need anything. I am so sorry.I has to be so hard.you still have lots of love so many people who love you.Stay close to your family. And stay close to God .

Scott Lanter - Nov 20, 2013

Elmer was truly one of a kind. He and I met working at Rittal, I then asked him to come to CTIO because when the Air Force asked me about testing powder coatings, I told them that this would not be possible without hiring Elmer Baldwin. While Elmer’s and my employment together at Rittal was not long, in that short time that I had worked with him there, his ethics, his knowledge, but most importantly, his kindness and friendship was why I wanted him to come work for UD. It wasn’t very long at all with UD that I believe the entire community knew Elmer because it never mattered where I would go with him that someone would through their hands up and holler, “Hay Elmer”.
Elmer and I have shared our life stories over the 15 years that I have known him. He was a close friend whom I trusted with very personal issues. Elmer, I thank you for being there for me and while I will never forget you and your way of always making things better, I will truly miss you.
For Elmer’s family, as you all know, Elmer was someone who was always there for everyone he became to know, and I am sure that the Lord will use his abilities to touch even more people than Elmer could have ever met in a life time.
God Bless
