She was born September 10, 1924 in Rosewood, Ohio and was a 1942 graduate of Rosewood High School.
She married Wendell Weller on August 10, 1945; he passed away October 29, 2010. For a short time, the couple lived in Phoenix, AZ and then moved back to Champaign County, where they raised their children and spent the rest of their 65 years together. Mrs. Weller was a member of the Urbana United Methodist Church (UUMC), Eastern Star Caroline Chapter # 39, the Farm Bureau and the Holiday Ramblers, Chapter 23. She cherished music, reading, sewing, dancing, traveling, camping, farming and the beautiful flowers in her landscaping. Mrs. Weller was a devout Christian; she attended the first Emmaus Women’s Walk at the High St. Methodist Church in Springfield and later had the great joy of sponsoring other members of her family on their Emmaus Walks; she enjoyed participating in the Women’s bible study at the YMCA and was a volunteer at the WhereHouse food pantry, a mission of UUMC.
Most of all she will be sadly missed by her family, her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Adell (Weller) and Gerald “Jerry†Mirtes of Urbana, her son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Wendell and Staci (Ernst) Weller; granddaughter, Wendee (Cook) and Jeffrey Giovanelli of Urbana; grandsons, Major Christopher and Samantha Thompson Cook of Springfield, Justin Weller of Urbana and Jared Weller of Urbana; great granddaughters, Mackenzie Brandenburg Cook of Terre Haute, IN, Katie Howell, Kari Lynn Giovanelli and Sophia Rose Giovanelli, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Weller is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Elias and Chloea Ivy (Pence) Downey, brother, Earl Downey and a sister, Helen (Downey) Bennette.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services to celebrate Mrs. Weller’s life will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Lillibridge officiating.
In honor of Mrs. Weller’s life, and in lieu of flowers, Mrs. Weller requested that donations be given to her two favorite charities: the Wherehouse food pantry, in care of UUMC, 238 North Main Street, Urbana, OH 43078, and the GrandWorks Foundation, the non-profit community organization renovating the Gloria Theater.
