Fred Leroy Turner, 95, of Mechanicsburg, passed away, Monday, July 18, 2011 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born November 29, 1915 in Woodstock, Ohio, the son of Frank L. and Jessie E. (Hoisington) Turner.

Fred was a 1933 graduate of Woodstock High School. He first worked as a farmer and then worked for Ohio Grain. Fred retired from Navistar in 1989. He was a member of the Woodstock Lions Club since 1945 and also became a member of the Mechanicsburg Lions Club. Fred was a very active member of the Mechanicsburg Masonic Lodge. He became a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church in 1955. Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and mushroom hunting.

Fred is survived by his wife, Neva F. (Anderson) Turner; his son, Phillip “Skip” (Marilyn) Turner of Mt. Gilead, OH; his grandchildren, Dean (Pamela) Turner of Urbana, OH, Shannon (Apryl) Turner of Kilbourne, OH, Robin (Tom) Salyers of Urbana, OH, Beth (Bob) Fitzpatrick of Mt. Gilead, OH, and Jordan W. Turner of St. Clairsville, OH; his great grandchildren, Vanessa (Matt) Lockwood of Kingscreek, OH, Joshua (Shannon) Turner of Dayton, OH, Nikki and Tiffany Salyers of Urbana, OH, Teagan Turner of Kilbourne OH, Madison, Turner and Rowan Fitzpatrick of Mt. Gilead, OH; his great-great grandchildren, Halana and Triton Turner of Dayton, OH, Hayden and Zaylor Rogan of Urbana, OH; sister-in-law, Willie Turner of Urbana, OH; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest Turner, Howard (Marion) Turner and infant brother.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Masonic services will be held at 8 pm. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Harley Roston officiating. Burial will follow in Woodstock, Ohio.
