Glen E. Rutan, 91, of Urbana, passed away, Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 3:40 a.m. in his residence with his family by his side.
He was born September 15, 1922 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio the son of Willis and Ida (Shy) Rutan.
Glen attended Mechanicsburg School and then served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He retired from Adamson Tank Co. in Urbana. He and his wife of 62 years, Kathryn (Shepman) Rutan, moved to Clearwater, Florida for 25 years before returning to Urbana where he worked until he was 85 years old at the Country Club mowing grass. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and had season tickets for at least 25 years; after he couldn’t travel anymore he never missed a game on TV. His grandson, Steve, took him on a trip in 2010 to Washington DC to the World War II Veteran Memorial.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn Rutan; sisters, Eleanor Herron and Eva M. Shank and brother, Phillip Rutan.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon K. Smith, son, Ronny (Brenda) Rutan; 5 grandchildren, Susan (Rick) Evans, Sandy (Mike Harvey) Kizer, Steve Smith, Doug and Deron Rutan; numerous great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; brother, Ray (Mary) Rutan; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. Services have been entrusted to VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana.
