Granville Ogden Cordell, 87, formerly a long time resident of Mechanicsburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the Masonic Community, Springfield.
Granville was born March 17, 1924 in London, OH to Roscoe and Pearlie (Love) Cordell. He was the 4th of seven children. Granville married Pauline Davis on March 17, 1945 in Mechanicsburg.
Granville worked with his family on their farm. He then became jeweler and watchmaker and was employed as a bus driver, semi-truck driver, and jewelry watchmaker. He retired from Rockwell International as a “Research Technician” currently “The Boeing Company” for 27 years. He was a 54 year member of the Grand Lodge of Ohio, F.& A.M., Mechanicsburg Lodge No. 113, Royal Arch of Masons of Ohio Chapter No. 34, Urbana, OH; Member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite of Urbana, OH. Granville cherished his family dearly, loved to fly his airplane, and loved playing string instruments: string violin, viola, banjo, cello, guitar, and the mandolin with his family. He would often talk about how he loved being a resident of the Masonic Community, Springfield, OH. He cherished the time he spent with his breakfast buddies he has made while residing here.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Pauline D. Cordell, four sons, David, Philip & Paul of Columbus, OH. Rodney of Springfield, OH; four daughters, Carolyn (John Sr.) Kenfield of Glenrock, WY; Mary Walling of Piqua, OH; Joanna (Christofer) Chapman and Theresa (Gary) Knox of Urbana, OH., daughter-in-law Marcia (Duncan) Cordell-Miles of Mechanicsburg, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Pearlie Cordell; his Son, Rodger E. Cordell, Sr.; his granddaughter, Erica Lynn Cordell, his brothers, Grant (Bud), Herbert, Raleigh and sisters, Mildred, Irene and Pauline.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 4:00p.m. at the Springfield Masonic Home, in the Wooley Chapel, 2655 West National Road Springfield, OH 45504, with Pastor John Ware officiating. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral starting at 2:00p.m. Masonic services will be held at 4 p.m. prior to the service by the Mechanicsburg Lodge # 113 F. & A.M. A reception will follow the funeral at the Masonic Community, 7 Masonic Dr., Cunningham Place, 2nd Floor. Contributions may be made “In Memory of Granville Cordell” to a charity of the donor’s choice. Services have been entrusted to SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg.
