Helen Elizabeth Roach, 93, Urbana, went home to be with the Lord on June 20, 2010. She was born July 6, 1916 in Champaign County the daughter of Harley and Viola (Coleman) Shafer.
Helen was a member of the Kingscreek United Methodist Church and she attended Salem Local School in Kingscreek. Helen was married April 12, 1941 to Paul Ellsworth Roach and they shared 41 years together.
Helen is remembered for her gracious heart, her unconditional love and compassion for others, her unselfish acts of kindness and her creativity. In her earlier years she worked at both WB Marvin’s Date and Screen factories. The type of work Helen most enjoyed was babysitting with young children in her home.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Ellsworth Roach; Grandson, Craig Allen Lyall and Great Grandson, Paul Kyler Yagel; eight brothers, James, Marion, Robert, Russell, Claude, Harold, George and Donald; and two sister, Opal Burris and Betty Dannaker.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Connie McCombs of Columbus, Ohio and Sharon Patterson of Columbia City, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Lori (Kenny) Humphrey of Rushsylvania, Rita Stewart of Springfield, Alicia Bump of Columbus, Aaron (Dawn) McCombs of London, Aleta (Bill) Koch of Columbia City, Indiana, Melinda (David) Fields of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Valerie Yagel and Teresa Wehr of Columbia City, Indiana; 20 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy (Lockwood) Black and Doris Short, both of Urbana.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, cards and visits over the past few months. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established in her name for Cornerstone Home Health and Hospice Cornerstone Home Health and Hospice, 212 W. Court St, Urbana, OH 43078 and Kingscreek United Methodist Church, 1368 Kennard-Kingscreek Rd, Urbana, OH 43078.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-9 pm on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 in the Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday in the Kingscreek United Methodist Church with Pastor David Brown and grandson, Aaron McCombs officiating. Burial will follow in Kingscreek Cemetery.
