Helen Jane (Klopfenstein) Topp, 76, of Mechanicsburg passed away on December 6, 2015 at The Kobacker House in Columbus, OH, with her daughter and granddaughter at her side. She was born September 20, 1939 in Jackson Center, OH, and was a 1957 graduate of Wapakoneta Blume High School. She graduated from Columbus Business University and was a Certified Animal Veterinary Technician. She was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Auxiliary, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Auxiliary, and the Veterinary Tech Association serving on several appointed committees. Helen was active in the Student Chapters of the AVMA and the OVMA. She was awarded the official PHT (Putting Hubby Through) from the College of Veterinary Medicine of The Ohio State University in 1964.
Helen served as Treasurer of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church and Treasurer of the United Methodist Women including working on several committees. Helen served on the Champaign County Board of Elections for forty years. She was a member of the Jr. Woman’s Tourist Club and was a member of the Champaign County Agriculture Society. Helen worked hand in hand with her husband in Mechanicsburg Veterinary Practice for 47 and one half years. Helen enjoyed knitting, quilting, crocheting, and loved playing Bridge and Shanghai with her friends.
Helen worked as an executive secretary for the American Motorcycle Association and worked part time as a secretary/receptionist for William B. Saxbe and John C Newlin. She retired from Macy’s (formerly Lazarus) with 20 years of service. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dr. Herbert C Topp on October 27, 2011. She was preceded in death by parents, Homer Eugene and Mable Mary (Runkle) Klopfenstein. Other survivors include son, Douglas Alan (Barb) Topp of New Bremen, daughter DiAnn (William) McMillen of Plain City, grandchildren Madison Jane and Matthew William McMillen and step grandchildren Stacy and Jonathan Walterbusch. Also surviving are brothers James (Jean) Klopfenstein of Jackson Center, Robert Klopfenstein of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Garry Klopfenstein of Wapakoneta and several nieces and nephews, special friends Phyllis Klopfenstein of Wapakoneta and Buck Davis of Mechanicsburg.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Helen’s life will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 in the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church, 42 N. Main St., Mechanicsburg, Ohio 43044.

So sorry for your loss. I know how it has been taking care of your mother. God bless her! I will never forget all the lovely conversations we would have about whatever and how she always seemed interested in what I had to say too. I will always admire how talented she was and remember all the great memories of Helen as I grew to be a friend of the family. To me, she was a very classy woman.
