Herman “Junior” Blakeman Jr. 75 of Mechanicsburg, went home to be with Lord, Tuesday, August 11, 2009 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center, High St. Campus.
Junior as most people called him was born February 9, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio the son of the late Herman Sr. & Maxine (Frances) Blakeman.
He had 1 brother, Richard (Dick) and Helen Blakeman, 3 sisters, Jean (Norman) Harrington, the late, Ruth Ann Moore and the late, Joanna (Sis) & Richard (Dick) Colwell all of Mechanicsburg.
Junior graduated from Mechanicsburg “The school on High” in 1955. He joined the Army and was stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He married Grace (Rafferty) Blakeman in 1956 and they had four children.
He then worked at The International Harvester for 30 years, after retirement he loved & enjoyed spending more time with his children and grandchildren. When out enjoying his retirement and his journey through this life he become interested in collecting many unusually things; meeting numerous new friends & faces; and he liked sharing and telling stories about growing up in Mechanicsburg to his kids and grandkids. If you needed a friend or even a cup of coffee or two, he was there. He had lots of knowledge of building and fixing things; he just always knew. “That’s our Dad”, Your Dear Friend…
He will be sadly missed by his family; Kim Layne and David Fraley of Mechanicsburg, Sue Propst & Ryman Donohoe of Mechanicsburg, Terry & Natalie Blakeman of Urbana and Kathy Lewis & Terry Stout of Mechanicsburg. To his loving grandchildren “he was Papa”, Josh & Amanda Propst of Mechanicsburg, Monica Hinton of Circleville, Aaron & Tara Propst of Mechanicsburg, the late Emily Propst, Austin Layne & Ben Layne of Mechanicsburg, Jimmy Blakeman of Urbana, Brittany Blakeman of Marysville, Michael Cox & Nathan Cox of Urbana, Jade Blakeman of Urbana, Amanda Lewis of Mechanicsburg; 11 great grandchildren, Walker & Whitlee Propst of Mechanicsburg, Logan & Autumn Hinton of Circleville, Cannon, Chaysen and Carson Propst of Mechanicsburg, Brooke & Kate Moore of Mechanicsburg, Ashlie Blakeman of Urbana, Hayden & Hannah Blakeman of Marysville; as well as several nieces and nephews. Junior also leaves, a great buddy & friend, Randall VanHoose & Lloyd Arnett and a lifelong friend, Florence Gross.
The family would like to thank the Springfield Regional Medical Center and the McAuley Center of Urbana for the care & kind words while our beloved dad was very sick.


A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2009 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD AND VERNON FUNERAL HOME Mechanicsburg.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2009 in the New Life Ministries Church, Rosedale Rd. Mechanicsburg.
Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery Mechanicsburg. Serving as pallbearers, Terry Blakeman, Josh Prost, Aaron Prost, Jimmy Blakeman, Austin Layne & Ben Layne; honorary pallbearers, Ryman Donohoe, David Fraley & Terry Stout. Memorial contributions may be made to the Goshen Memorial Park, S. Parkview Rd., Mechanicsburg, Ohio 43044.
