Howard M. Bishop 85 of Urbana, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2008 in the Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana.
Born October 28, 1922 at home in North Lewisburg the son of the late Glenn and Carrie (Grant) Bishop. He attended Middleburg High School. Howard served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.
He did carpenter and paint work with his brother while working second shift at International Truck and Engine from which he retired. He was a member of the American Legion Pearce-Kerns Post 120 Urbana, the VFW of Urbana and the Moose Lodge Urbana. In his earlier days he enjoyed camping and now spends his spare time with family and friends.
He is survived by his children, John (Connie) Bishop of Urbana, Sandy (Larry) Craig of W. Liberty and Linda (Randy) Thomas of Urbana; his grandchildren, Scott Bishop of Urbana, Wendy (Jason) Plieman of Troy, Heidi (Josh) Stump of Bellefontaine, Kerry (Brooke) Craig of W. Liberty, Ryan Thomas & Rob (Lisa) Thomas both of Urbana, 5 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Bob (Donna) Bishop of Huntsville & Jack Bishop of W. Liberty, a sister, Kathryn Miller of W. Mansfield; as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rose (Rafferty) Bishop, 3 brothers, Byron, Cyril & Jim.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME Urbana.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2008 in the funeral home with Pastor Ron Irick officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery Urbana. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Pearce-Kerns Post 120 Urbana. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Community Mercy Hospice, 1343 N. Fountain Ave., Springfield, Ohio 45504.
