Howard F. Burson, 86, of Urbana passed away February 18, 2008 in the Wellington Nursing Home.
He was born in Urbana on November 24, 1921, the son of Earl & Mary (Robbins) Burson.
Howard was a graduate of West Liberty Salem High School. He was a member of the Methodist Church, a WWII Veteran, serving in Alaska. He retired from Conrail after 33 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post Number 0426. He also worked for Clark’s Market and drove a school bus for West Liberty Salem.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Burson, they were married 31 years.; daughters, Ginny (Richard) Steinmetz of Springfield, Barb (Jeff) Woods of Bellefontaine; John Mefford of St. Paris, Merrill Powell, Jeff (Bobby) Powell; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Louise King, Sue (Millard) Ferryman, Linda Chapman; special nieces, Candace (Jim), Daniels & Bobbi Guey; several other nieces and nephews..
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Earl Burson, great grandson, Shaun Hill; sister, Ethel Ferryman.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2008 in the Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2008 in the funeral home with Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Logan County Honor Guard.
