Jack M. Engle, 85, of Urbana passed away, Thursday, August 25, 2011 in Mercy Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 22, 1926 in Bluffton, Indiana, the son of Melvin H. and Ruth (McConnell) Engle.
Jack graduated from Purdue University with a BSCE degree. He served his country in the United States Navy. He was an Eagle Scout. Jack was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as Elder and was the president of the Board of the Caring Kitchen. For 20 years, he served as County Engineer for Champaign County. In the past, he worked for Highway Construction Company in Illinois, Indiana & Michigan and Construction Equipment Manufacturing Company. He was a member of the Public Land Surveyors of Ohio, Miami Valley Chapter serving as Past President, Ohio and the Association of County Engineer’s, Logan, Union and Champaign County Planning Commission serving as Past President. He also enjoyed working with wood.
He is survived by his loving wife, May L. (McDaniel) Engle; daughter, Evon (Thomas) Alexander of Cable; sons, Karl Engle of Botkins, Craig Engle of Washington D.C., James (Cynthia) Cushman of North Lewisburg; grandchildren, Rebecca (Randell) Taylor of North Carolina, Thomas Alexander (Fiancée Miranda Rees) of Zanesfield, Darren (Kim) Cushman of North Lewisburg, Anthony Cushman (Fiancée Whitney Woodruff) of North Lewisburg; great grandchildren, Peyton Taylor and Memphis Taylor both of North Carolina; several nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dick Engle.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2011 in the Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011 in the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana with Rev. Kevin Horrigan officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Urbana.
