Rev. James C. Doss, 89, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 21, 2010 in Springfield Regional Medical Center, Springfield.
He was born June 17, 1920 in Somerset, Kentucky, the son of William H. and Minnie P. (Waddle) Doss.
Early in his 20’s James left his job with the railroad to answer the call from God to become a Pastor. He served at many churches throughout Ohio with the Church of God of Prophecy. Locally he served in Mechanicsburg and Urbana. He was called from retirement 3 times; this last was to mentor the current Pastor at the Urbana Church of God of Prophecy.
While he served as a pastor he also worked as a mechanic, a substitute teacher, a school bus driver and a pilot.
James was a loving and kind husband, father & grandfather, who will be sadly missed by his family.
He is survived by his son-in-law, Edwin (Beverly) Dixon of Springfield; his grandchildren, Lesley M. Dixon and her children, James, Kinsey, Colleen & Tara; Robin (Jon) Dornbirer, her children, Marissa, Brielle, Jocelyn, Beau & Hansen; and Benjamin (Elaine) Dixon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Irene (Gallimore) Doss; his children, Judith Ann Dixon & Phillip Morse Doss; his sisters, Mary & Pearly and his brother, Willie.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, 2010 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON, Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 2010 in the funeral home with Pastor Richard Aites officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg. Serving as pall bearers; James McClure, Ben Dixon, Jim Lawrence, Dave Jordan, Carl Doss and William Doss.
