James “Jim” Albert Duke, 82, of Urbana, passed away, Wednesday September 18, 2013 at Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana.
He was born March 7, 1931 in Hamilton Ohio, the son of Stanley Howard and Myrtle Mae (Sheperd) Duke.
Jim served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Grimes Manufacturing after more than 40 years, where he was a member of the Grimes Quarter Century Club and SAE. He also was a 50 year member of Harmony Lodge #8 F. & A.M. James enjoyed playing golf, being outdoors, spending time at the Grimes Flying Lab Museum, and most importantly, spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Dorothy Mae “Dottie” (Tape) Duke; daughters, Tari (Mike) Murphy and Tina (Bob) Jones, both of Urbana; son, Tim (Karen) Duke of Urbana; grandchildren, Mandy (Pat) Paule, Nick (Bethany) Jones, Tommy Gearon, Adam and Rachel Duke and Lily Jones; great grandchildren, Drew, Dylan, and Isaac Paule, Jae Duke and Maggie Jones; brothers, Stanley (Dorothy-deceased) Duke and Paul (Hedy) Duke; sisters-in-law, Margie (Bill-deceased) Nutt and Carol (Rand) Bishop; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends and coworkers.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marcella (Russell) Sick; brothers, Lewis (Verle) Duke and Frank (Carol) Duke.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Masonic services will be held at 8 P.M. following the visitation. A funeral service will be held at 1P.M. on Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Nancy Hardin officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana where military honors will be provided by the Pearce-Kerns A.L. Post #120.
