James E. “Jim” Finch, 97, of Urbana, passed away on August 28, 2015 in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana. He was born November 22, 1917 in Hilliard, Ohio the son of Barnett M. and Anna (Foark) Finch.
Jim had been a meat-cutter for 38 years at Looker’s Market in Urbana. He then transitioned into a security guard position for 20 years before finally retiring at the young age of 89! Jim was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and also a member of the Urbana Moose Lodge. He loved to watch or listen to all types of ball games, was an avid bowler for many years along with loving to sing and having a passion for bingo and euchre.
He is survived by his children, Marie E. Shirk, Rosemary L. Stimmel, Polly G. Finch, John and Nancy Wyant, and Rayann and Jim Troyer; his sister, Mary Kattenhorn; his 13 grandchildren, Jeff, Bo (Darlene), Jonn (Denise), Jim (Trina), Dan (Julie), Glenna (Greg), Crista (Ryan), Kelsey (Chip), Kent (Monica), Heather, Heath (Natalie), Mirah (TJ), and J.J. (Stewart). There were many others who lovingly called him “Pappaw”. He also leaves behind 51 great grandchildren, 28 great-great grandchildren and 4 on the way, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Harriet whom he was married to for 66 years; son, Lt. Col. James F. Finch; sons-in-law, Clarence Shirk and Bobby “Bugs” Stimmel; 3 great-great grandchildren; brothers and sisters- in- law; Joe and Rosa Finch, John and Ruthella Finch, Clarence and Margaret Finch; sisters, Edna Turner George and Cecil Davis and brother-in-law, William Kattenhorn.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3-8 PM on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 in the funeral home with Father Larry Gearhart officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Marysville.

I am sorry for your loss. May you find comfort from the words found at John 5:28,29. This scripture helps us to see that soon, Jehovah will use his son Jesus to resurrect the dead. Also, Revelation 21:4 helps us to see that death will be no more. I hope that these scriptures can help all in grief.
