Greenwalt, James 75, formerly of Springfield, passed away in Columbus June 15, 2014 at Doctor’s West Hospital after a courageous battle with prostate cancer, heart and kidney disease. He was born October 7, 1938 in Springfield, the son of Mae Marie (Curtis) Hickman and James W Greenwalt, Sr. His world was his family and he died peacefully with them by his side and his dogs near him till the end. A special thanks is given to the staff of Columbus Homereach Hospice.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years Sandra Greenwalt, his six children Larry (Marsha) Greenwalt, Robert (Trish) Greenwalt, Deborah (Michael) Jessberger, Cecilia (Ramesh) Navaratnam, Teresa (Geoff) Petersen, and Jonica (Terry) Zwilling. He was a proud Grandfather of 35 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He leaves a loving family including brothers Ernest Hickman, and Raymond (Linda) Hickman, sisters Judith Smith, Rebecca Roberts, Josephine Keaton, and Gaylene Robb, plus his in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends so many to list. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, uncles Donald and Russ Ferryman, brothers Barry Greenwalt, Allen Hickman and sister Ernestine Fife.
Jim was a 1958 graduate of Catholic Central High School. A 40 year employee of Robbins and Meyers he showed all of us the value of hard work. He was a member the Eagles, Machinist and Union Clubs of Springfield where he was friends with everyone he met and will be missed by all.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, 257 W. Main St., Mechanicsburg, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014 in the funeral home with the Rev. Linden Good officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
