James E. Stimmel, 74 of Woodstock, passed away, Saturday, July 21, 2012 in Springfield Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 30, 1938 in Woodstock, Ohio. Jim was in the first graduating class of Triad High School in 1956. He served his country in the United States Army. Jim was a farmer and a past Rush Township Trustee for 31 years. He was a member of the Mechanicsburg Lodge # 113 F. & A. M. for 50 years, Grand Council Royal & Select Masons, Urbana Council # 59, Raper Commandery # 19 Knights Templar Urbana, The Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio Star Chapter # 126 Mechanicsburg and Caroline Chapter # 39 Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Woodstock Lions Club, the American Legion Post #238 Mechanicsburg, Farm Bureau Council Northeast #9, the County Township Association, the Northeast Fire District Board and Champaign County Fair Board for over 40 years. Jim thoroughly enjoyed the Champaign County Fair and running the OSTPA Tractor Pulls.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Jane (Virts) Stimmel; his children, Suzanne E. (Eric) Dick of Leesburg, William (Cindy) Stimmel of Cable, Ohio, Mary Ruth Stimmel of Upper Arlington and Linda J. Beattie of Urbana; his grandchildren, Zachary Stimmel Beattie and Sarah Jane Beattie; his brother, John (Jo Lynne) Stimmel of Wheeling, WVA; his sisters, Rebecca (Henry) Harenberg and Martha Ann Stimmel both of Albuquerque, NM; his sister-in-law, Rosemary Stimmel of Woodstock; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer J. and Irene (McClain) Stimmel and his brother, Robert T. ”Bugs” Stimmel.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg; where Masonic services will be held at 8:00 p.m. by the Mechanicsburg Lodge # 113 F. & A. M. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2012 in the funeral home with Pastor Kathy Reiff officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodstock Cemetery, Woodstock, Ohio. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #238 Mechanicsburg. Memorial gifts may be made to the Champaign County Fair Board P. O. Box 38157 Urbana, Ohio 43078 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
