James Lowell Tullis 83 of Mechanicsburg passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008 in the Wellington Rehabilitation Urbana. Lowell was born February 16, 1925 in Mechanicsburg the son of Harold & Catherine (Robinson)Tullis.
Lowell was a 1943 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School. He served his country during WWII in the South Pacific in the United States Army. In 1955, he began Tullis Trucking and retired in 2007.
He was a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge 113 F. & A.M., the Antioch Shrine, Life member of the American Legion Post 238 and a life member of the VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Catherine (McGuire) Tullis, his son, John (Rebecca) Tullis, his daughter, Ruth (Pat) Ritchie all of Mechanicsburg, his sisters, Jean Rutan & Phyllis McMahill both of Mechanicsburg and Nancy Bouton of Mt. Vernon, his grandchildren, Nanette (Jack) Butcher, John (Kerri) Ritchie, step grandchildren, Amy Gibson, Ethan (Buffy) Davis, his great grandchildren, Jack & Jared Butcher and Shelby Ritchie, step great grandchildren, Evan & Gracyn Davis; as well as several nieces & nephews and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Lois Tullis, and his brothers-in-law, Jim Bouton & Calvin Rutan.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2008 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home Mechanicsburg, where Masonic services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Harley Roston officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
