James H. Weaver 79 of Inglewood, CA was carried home by the angels that God sent for him on Sunday, March 15, 2009, in his residence. Jim fought a good fight, he finished his course, he kept the faith, he believed there was laid up for him a crown of righteousness, which the lord, the righteous judge would give him in the day of his transition.


He was born August 23, 1929 in Urbana, Ohio the son of the late James F. & Joanna M. (Brown) Weaver.


Jim attended Concord High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force for several years as a Military Police Officer. After leaving the Air Force he was employed with Wright Patterson Air Force Base. James graduated from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio with a bachelor degree. He then went to the University of Michigan where he received his Master Degree in Toxicology.
After James Graduated, he moved his family to Los Angeles, California; where his children would have a better life.


James went on to work for The United Airlines as the First Black Medical Director in the history of The United Airlines. James achieved many accomplishments, he received the highest award as the first Black American in the history of the United Airlines for his work in the medical field setting new and unprecedented producers that are still in place.
James lived his life to it’s fullest. James was an outgoing person who enjoyed life and never meet a stranger, he enjoyed family gatherings and was the life of the party, James also enjoyed traveling, and taking his kids fishing every weekend.


James leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving wife, Carol Weaver, two Daughters Elizabeth Weaver of Columbus Ohio, Shelley Hinson of Columbus Ohio and two sons Bryant Weaver of Stockton California and James Weaver of Santa Clara California. Five precious grandchildren Melissa Weaver of Columbus Ohio Jessica Weaver and Christopher of Stockton California, Jeremy Hinson and Elizabeth Hinson of Columbus Ohio and one Great Grandchild Brinley Weaver-Cullen of Columbus Ohio;
his sisters, Margaret (Nathaniel) Oliver of Youngstown, Joanna M. Taylor of Springfield, Betty J. Dunn of Urbana, Janet (Ronald) Shreve of Detroit, MI & Mary M. Weaver of Urbana, her brothers, Oliver (Lillian) Weaver of Bakersfield, CA, Robert L. (Kathy) Weaver of Vactorville, CA and Jerry L. Weaver of Urbana; numerous nieces & nephews of several generations.


James is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Diana L. Walls and his brothers, John R. and William Roger.


A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2009 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, 235 Miami St., Urbana. A Home Going service to Celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald Shreve officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery Urbana.
